| Talk about Men and Discrimination |
The main challange I've seen in getting men and fathers behind the work life family ballence issue is a perseption that it's all for women and that men's issues will not be addressed. The report seems to be well received by women from my expreience.
A sense of it being upto men to make the grade has met with a mix of resignation and resentment in most of the guys I've had contact with.
Personally I'm impressed by simply taking on the issue and discussing it. Important and deeply seated issues do seem to get worse before they get better by the very nature of the issues.
I'd like to see some men part of the writting of the report hwo have skills in editing, expression and have listened to men for a long period. Obviously that resourse is availble to the authors for women's issues.
The culture is awash with critiscm and blame. The last ditch attempt to get the other parties to be responsible. The counselling trueism that one can change what is to do with oneself first before attempting to assist the other rings loud in my ears. With ones own issues well handeled the others become very much easier and in fact a real pleasure to be an effective assistance to another.
Men's issues are multisided being both personal and institutional. They centre around the work role.
